Interference RNA in immune-mediated oral diseases – minireview
نویسندگان
چکیده
Immune-mediated oral disorders are characterised by their chronicity, and some are refractory to treatment. Interference RNA (iRNA) has been implicated in the underlying mechanism of such immune-mediate oral and refractory inflammatory oral diseases. iRNA-based understanding of the mechanism in these diseases may help to produce non-invasive diagnostic methodologies and treatment modalities of such drug non-responsive diseases. Oral lesions in these immune-mediated diseases can precede the occurrence of lesions in other regions of the body. The early diagnosis and treatment of these drug non-responsive diseases might benefit the patient by reducing chronicity and probably even resolving the disease. This aim of the present minireview is to give an overview of the possible implications of iRNA on the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatments of immune-mediated and inflammatory oral diseases. The manuscript can form the framework for research on iRNA in these immune-mediated oral disorders.

Bcr-abl Silencing by Specific Small-Interference RNA Expression Vector as a Potential Treatment for Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
Background: RNA interference (RNAi) is the mechanism of gene silencing-mediated messenger RNA degradation by small interference RNA (siRNA), which becomes a powerful tool for in vivo research, especially in the areas of cancer. In this research, the potential use of an expression vector as a specific siRNA producing tool for silencing of Bcr-abl in K562 cell line has been investigated. Methods:...
متن کاملSmall RNAs in plant defense responses during viral and bacterial interactions: similarities and differences
Small non-coding RNAs constitute an important class of gene expression regulators that control different biological processes in most eukaryotes. In plants, several small RNA (sRNA) silencing pathways have evolved to produce a wide range of small RNAs with specialized functions. Evidence for the diverse mode of action of the small RNA pathways has been highlighted during plant-microbe interacti...
متن کاملHuman epithelial cells establish direct antifungal defense through TLR4-mediated signaling.
Mammalian TLRs are central mediators of the innate immune system that instruct cells of the innate and adaptive response to clear microbial infections. Here, we demonstrate that human epithelial TLR4 directly protected the oral mucosa from fungal infection via a process mediated by polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs). In an in vitro epithelial model of oral candidiasis, the fungal pathogen Cand...
متن کاملThe dose can make the poison: lessons learned from adverse in vivo toxicities caused by RNAi overexpression
For the past five years, evidence has accumulated that vector-mediated robust RNA interference (RNAi) expression can trigger severe side effects in small and large animals, from cytotoxicity and accelerated tumorigenesis to organ failure and death. The recurring notions in these studies that a critical parameter is the strength of RNAi expression and that Exportin-5 and the Argonaute proteins a...
متن کاملRNAi-mediated silencing of CD40 prevents leukocyte adhesion on CD154-activated endothelial cells.
The CD40-CD154 dyad has a central role in the development of immune-inflammatory processes. Therefore, disruption of CD40 signaling has the potential to be therapeutically useful in a number of disease indications, including autoimmune syndromes, atherosclerosis, and allograft rejection. Blocking antibodies to CD154 have been successfully employed in experimental animal models, and recently in ...
